MAYOR ADAMS STRIKES OUT:   Even those on our side had some hope for Eric Adams when he was elected New York's second black mayor.  A Democrat, yes, but also a former cop.  Maybe he had some steel behind the smile.

And he said the right things.  And we were sympathetic.  After all, he had a City Council that was just to the left of Lenin, and a state legislature that thought Lenin was a right-wing plant. 

But, alas, our hopes are fading.  Eric, who may mean well, seems to be going the way of the standard Democratic crowd.  Maybe the big boys had a little talk with him.   From Fox: 

Conservatives on social media ridiculed New York City Mayor Eric Adams’s new proposal to combat shoplifting and crime at retail stores throughout the city.

The Democrat mayor’s plan, laid out in bullet point format during a local Fox 5 broadcast, included providing "De-escalation training for retail employees," and putting kiosks in stores that connect "would-be thieves" to social service.

Twitter users mocked the mayor for his soft, unrealistic plan that seemed no harsher than putting unruly children in a "time-out corner," as one described. Others argued that the mayor’s plan would make the city more "dangerous" than it has already become. 

Conservative Twitter influencer @AGHamiltion29 shared a screenshot of the Fox affiliate’s outline of the mayor’s proposal Friday. According to it, Adam’s plan would implement four key actions: "Give first-time offenders intervention programs instead of prosecution," provide "de-escalation training for retail employees," "establish neighborhood retail watch groups to share theft info," and "install kiosks in stores to connect would-be thieves w/ social service programs."

AG trashed the plan, simply declaring, "These are not serious people."

Others on the platform shared the user’s sentiment. Some, like The Spectator contributing editor Stephen L. Miller, called it a glorified version of the defund the police initiative.
Seeing as there was no serious crackdown or punishment implemented in the plan, Miller tweeted, "Anything but police is still defunding the police."

Breitbart News columnist AWR Hawkins torched the first point of the plan, writing, "Notice, the very first part of this Democrat mayor's response to soaring shoplifting losses in NYC is to lessen punishment for first-time shoplifters. (He might as well provide first-time shoplifters with bags they can use to carry stolen merchandise out.)"

Communications special advisor for Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, Steve Guest observed, "These kiosks will be stolen first."

COMMENT:  So sad, so sad.  David Dinkins was the first black mayor of New York, and served in the late 1980s.  A decent man, he came to office describing New York as a "gorgeous mosaic," and pledged to be mayor of all the people.  But it didn't take long after he was sworn in for the black establishment to get to him, and pretty soon David Dinkins went soft on crime, and the city gave up on him.  In his run for re-election he was defeated by Rudy Giuliani, who made crime his issue and produced dramatic results. 

We may be seeing the same thing again.  The Adams prescription for shoplifting and other crimes comes right out of the radical left-wing playbook.  It is guaranteed to fail.  People are leaving New York by the busload.  But can the Republicans come up with another Rudy?  In Chicago, a complete fool who did nothing right has just been replaced by an even more complete fool whose first steps have been disastrous.  When you play racial politics, that is usually the result.

WHERE ARE THE DEM GENIUSES?  You'd think from our twisted press that the Democratic Party is possessed of a special wisdom and ability, whereas our side is 100 percent D-.  Not, true, not true, as we celebrate the real truth coming out.  From issuesinsights.com:

If Republicans are the stupid party – and you will get no argument from us here about that – perhaps the correct label for today’s Democratic party is “brainless.” Witness what it did in just the past few days:

President Joe Biden showed up at the pro-abortion EMILY’s List gala, where he said “I also want to thank my buddy Kamala who I work for up in the White House for leading on this issue.”
This is not the first time Biden has mistaken Harris as president. The fact that she could be

president is worse, since there are few in public office as dimwitted as she. Recently, Harris offered this pearl of wisdom at an event honoring National Small Business Week: “Some of our younger small business owners actually self-identify as entrepreneurs. They’re small business owners also.”

Meanwhile, Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman, the darling of the left, had this to say to a witness during a Senate Banking Committee hearing this week:

“Is it a staggering responsive … responsibility … that the the head of a bank could literally could literally crash our economy. Astonishing. That’s like if you have, I mean like … and, and they also realize is that-that-that now they have, it’s in the guaranteed a guaranteed way to be saved, by again by no matter no matter how, you know. So, it’s, it’s, you know, isn’t it appropriate that the those kinds of this kind of control should be more stricter to prevent this kind of thing from going? Or should we just go on and start bailing and sailing whoever bank, regardless of how however there’s their conduct is?”

Then there’s the 89-year-old Sen. Diane Feinstein, who returned to the Senate after spending three months at home recovering from shingles, who when asked about her absence told reporters: “I haven’t been gone. I’ve been here, I’ve been voting. Please, either know or don’t know.”

At least they are just spouting nonsense words. The policies being pushed by the party aren’t just brainless, they’re dangerous.

Rep. Cori Bush, D-Missouri, this week introduced a Reparations Now Resolution that would provide $14 trillion in funds to descendants of American slaves. “What we’re talking about is freedom and equity and calling on this country to acknowledge the harm that it has inflicted,” Bush said.

Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Calif., tweeted in support of the bill saying: “Reparations means equity. Reparations means justice. Reparations means dismantling the systems that have kept us marginalized.”

Aside from the impossibility of figuring out how to divide the spoils, to say nothing of raising the money, a reparations bill would be massively divisive, given that 68% of Americans oppose it, including 58% of Hispanics and 65% of Asians. Just 48% of rank-and-file Democrats back reparations.

Keep in mind, these are just a few of the most recent examples.

COMMENT:  What the Dems have done is to make stupidity prestigious.  Who needs to be smart when you can get so many benefits being stupid?  Who needs ideas when you can get to be vice president of the United States without a single one?  Why, the Dems are the anti-sucker party.  I'm running to get my membership card, printed on recycled cardboard.

NEXT UP:  South Carolina Republican Senator Tim Scott is about to enter the presidential sweeps.  It's an important moment.  Scott isn't perceived as having much chance for the Republican nomination for president...but vice president?  That's a different story.  He's an African-American conservative who's taken much abuse for standing up for his principles.  He's a fine speaker, and he may be the next vice president of the United States.  From Fox: 

U.S. Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., will spend a whopping $6 million on commercial ads in key presidential primary states, despite not yet officially entering the race, a senior official on his team said Friday.

Scott will spend an initial $5.5 million to run television ads statewide in Iowa and New Hampshire through the first GOP presidential debate, the official told Fox News Digital. The sizable purchase includes broadcast TV, cable, satellite and radio.

The figure would be the largest purchase of any 2024 Republican presidential candidate to date.

Additionally, Scott will launch a seven-figure digital ad campaign through that period, the official said.

Scott has not yet joined the 2024 Republican primary, although he is expected to do so next week. He launched an exploratory committee for a potential bid in April when he said he would "never back down in defense of the conservative values that make America exceptional."

The ad buy comes just ahead of a "special announcement" Scott is scheduled to make at Charleston Southern University in North Charleston, South Carolina, on Monday, May 22.
The South Carolina school is Scott’s alma mater.

Despite not yet joining the race, Scott spent time in both Iowa and New Hampshire earlier this month.

The South Carolina senator hosted a town hall in Waukee, a suburb of Des Moines, Iowa, on May 6. That same week, he also headlined a town hall at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College in Goffstown, New Hampshire.

Scott has also held campaign-style events in South Carolina, which holds the third contest in the Republican presidential primary schedule.

"I see that America is starving for positive, optimistic leadership," Scott told CBS News in April.

He also said he intends to be a unifying candidate who is focused on solutions more "than anything else." Scott added that he hopes to share the story of his own humble upbringing, which he says represents the importance of the American Dream.

"I want to provide that alternative not to any specific candidate, but for the American people," Scott told the outlet. "The difference between me and others, I believe, is that my focus is on the fact that I used to be a kid who didn't see a future. I used to be a kid that was angry about the cards that I was dealt. I was blessed by a mother who never surrendered. I was blessed by a mentor who always loved and supported my ideal self. And it's because of those two individuals that I now have greater faith in the future for others."

He continued: "And I see my responsibility of sharing the good news of who we can be because we have been. If we can unite this country around the solutions, focusing more on those solutions than anything else, it's my only path forward, and it's the one I've chosen."

COMMENT:  Watch this man closely.  He has substantial appeal.  His message may well resonate in these troubled times.  And no one can call him a racist.

He has raised a war chest.  He appears to be very well organized.

MAY 16-17,  2023

SOON TO BE A CANDIDATE: It's becoming clear that Governor Ron DeSantis will be entering the race for the Republican presidential nomination, possibly this week or the week after.

Good.  Let's have a real contest for the Republican nomination.  The numbers and polls don't mean much at this point, and I want to see our side present its case and its best contenders.

There are no sure things here.  People who say Trump has the nomination in the bag don't realize how big the bag is and how bumpy a ride Trump will have.  He is both loved and despised, and faces serious legal challenges that can derail his quest for a second term.  Or...a great candidate can emerge.

On the socialist, uh, I mean Democratic side, the uncertainties seem to grow.  They revolve around the mental fitness of Joe Biden and the lack of mental fitness of Kamala Harris, now playing the role of heiress to the throne.  The latest buzz, by the way, is that a plot is being hatched to draft Michelle Obama for president.   The theory is that it can happen if Biden's impairment gets worse, that he either steps aside or fades away, and that Harris herself realizes that her public unpopularity is too much to overcome.  I'm not so sure.  I'm really not sure that Michelle, however popular she is in some circles, is really seen as presidential material.  And I'm not sure that Kamala would go under the bus that easily.

One of the best reporters in the country, Salena Zito, has written a profile of DeSantis, and I thought it was worth quoting here.  From RealClearPolitics: 

This past weekend, Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., reminded voters, and a skeptical press that has spent an inordinate amount of time writing his political obituary before he even launched his candidacy, that he not only possesses the promise and nimbleness needed to be a candidate for president but that he also has the staff and network needed to pull off just the right move to strike a blow against his rival, former President Donald Trump.

People underestimate DeSantis only at their own peril.

The Florida governor began the weekend Friday in Illinois as the keynote speaker at the Lincoln Day Dinner for Peoria and Tazewell counties. The Peoria Journal Star said he drew a crowd of more than 1,100 to the Peoria Civic Center.

Early Saturday morning, DeSantis started his first campaign event in Sioux Center, Iowa, as a guest at Rep. Randy Feenstra's annual Feenstra Family Picnic, spent time greeting folks at a classic car museum, stopped at a Pizza Ranch, and finished out the day at an unplanned event, standing on a table with his wife at Jethro's BBQ.

All of DeSantis's headline events went off without a hitch. In that regard, they were very similar to speeches I attended several weeks ago that he gave in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, and Akron, Ohio, where he was greeted with robust support after delivering speeches that outlined his aspirations for the country, his accomplishments as a governor and his promise to take on the cultural headwinds in our country.

DeSantis and Trump were scheduled on Saturday to be in Iowa, the state with the first-in-the-country contest for 2024, but Trump's team canceled the event after the threat of a tornado warning. DeSantis took full advantage of his absence with an impromptu stop in the same area Trump was supposed to be, thus casting shade on the former president, who has spent months maligning DeSantis's character.

"My better half and I have been able to be all over Iowa today, but before we went back to Florida, we wanted to come by and say hi to the people of Des Moines," DeSantis said to a cheering and surprised crowd at the barbecue as he and his wife Casey stood on a picnic table outside. "So thank you all for coming out. It's a beautiful night. It's been a great day for us."

COMMENT:  Read the rest.  I'm looking forward to this contest.  And, after all, the future of the country depends on it.

IT DOESN'T GET LOWER THAN THIS:  Members of Congress's so-called "Squad" hit rock bottom.  From Fox: 

Two members of progressive group "the Squad" were the only Democrats to vote against a resolution that memorialized police officers killed in the line of duty and expressed condolences to their loved ones.

During a vote Monday recognizing National Police Week, Reps. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., and Cori Bush, D-Mo., uttered the only nays heard from the House floor as the chamber voted on the pro-law enforcement resolution.

The resolution, which passed with unanimous support from Republicans and nearly all Democrats, amended H.Res. 363 title to read: "Resolution memorializing law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty." 

Its passing honored "the 556 law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty, including 224 officers killed in 2022, as well as 332 officers killed in previous years whose stories were recovered during 2022," while also ensuring police are equipped with the resources and training necessary to keeping communities safe.

The amendment opposed by the Democrats expressed "unwavering support" for law enforcement officers and offered "condolences and solemn appreciation" for the loved ones of lost officers.

"Why did Cori Bush and Rashida Tlaib just vote against a simple resolution to honor law enforcement officers during National Police Week?" Rep. Troy Nehls, R-Texas., posted on Twitter after the vote.The resolution vowed that the House of Representatives would acknowledge "that police officers and other law enforcement personnel, especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, should be remembered and honored," and recognized as heroes.

Several representatives in the "Squad" have a history of anti-police rhetoric. But fellow original members Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., and Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., all voted in favor of the resolution. 

COMMENT:  Bush and Tlaib have to be two of the worst representatives in recent memory.  Is there no one who could defeat them in their Congressional districts?  I'll bet there is, and maybe some brave Republicans should step up, get into the race, and start the process of flipping those districts, if possible. Never give up, and never stop trying.  I'll guess that many of of these losers' constituents feel the same way about them that we do.  But the opposition has to be led.
